Betty Gorman is a professional artist based in South Carolina. She has
traveled extensively, and many of her paintings are inspired by her travels to
Italy, France, Greece, Spain, Portugal, England, Switzerland, Eastern Europe,
South America, and the Caribbean. She paints a wide range of subjects,
including still life, landscapes, buildings, people, animals, sporting events,
and children's storybook scenes. She also specializes in custom artwork,
capturing on canvas her clients' favorite scenery, homes, gatherings, people,
even pets.
Betty Gorman's formal art training began in Phoenix, Arizona
with noted artist Barbara Bond. Betty has received numerous awards from
juried art shows, in addition to the People's Choice of oil Painters of
Phoenix. Betty moved to Southern California in 1991, and continued her
studies with impressionist Mario Mercovitch, as well as portrait studies with
Davis Miller. Betty's paintings hang in many corporate offices and homes
in the Palos Verdes peninsula of Southern California. Betty relocated to
Greenville, South Carolina in 2002, and her work has quickly been discovered by
the local community. Since relocating to Greenville, Betty has ventured
into wall murals, including children's.
Although Betty has tried other mediums, such as watercolors,
acrylics, and pastels, she prefers oils due to the depth, and richness of color
that can be achieved with this medium. She was deeply influenced by the
work of the masters. This inspiration, combined with her studies and
experimentation with painting techniques on numerous subjects, have led to her
unique style, which is evident in her many works.
